On the Brompton I have added a TiParts mini Q rack enabling me to be able to roll the bike around with ease. I should have added one of these racks to my earlier Bromptons to make my travels easier. The rack is very lightweight and well worth the money. I did change the seat to a lighter and more comfortable model. I recently had TiParts pedals on the bike until one of them snapped in two. I ended up in a bad accident and I have now put the original Brompton pedals back on the bike. The solid reliable pedals will not break!
The Birdy has all original parts and I do not want to modify it. It is great the way it is. I have a Bike case from Indonesia that can easily fit both bikes for travel. The Birdy will be fantastic in countries where dirt roads and rough riding are common.
I have an electric kit coming to fit to the Brompton as needed in the near future. The kit comes from Swytch. I have ordered the Tour kit for a Brompton that has a 100km range. I weigh 94kg so I suspect the range will be closer to 80km. That will be fine and I am looking forward to using it for all sorts of fun activities. I considered a lot of different options for a new electric bike but this option allows me to use the Brompton as either a standard bike, or as an electric bike. I can even remove the kit with ease when taking the bike overseas.
I truly hope that I do not have to spend money on a new bike for some years. I have spent too much on bikes over the past few years and I need to stop and enjoy what I have now.
